Eli Cohen is a Professional Hazzan and teacher in the Syrian Sephardic Community in Brooklyn, NY and Deal, NJ.

I learned Qeriah from a young age under the guidance of my Great Uncle Meyer “Mickey” Kairey A’H. He instilled in me the power of praying to Hashem and how a Hazzan must elevate the prayers for the Kahal.

By listening to many Hazzanim and Arabic singers for the past 10 years, I am proficient in over 15 Maqamot including the main 7: Sigah, Ajam, Rast, Bayat, Hijaz, Saba and Nahwand

I have experience as a Hazzan and Ba’al Qoreh in the following Synagogues

• Ohel Yosef of Oakhurst (Summer)

• Congregation Kol Israel

• Sephardic Synagogue

• Bnei Yitzhak

In addition, I also am a Qeriah teacher at Barkai Yeshiva in Brooklyn. My experience in tutoring includes:

• Bar Mitzvah Torah and Tefilla lessons

• Reading any Sefer in the Tanach with proper Te’amim and pronunciation (Group or private)

• Pizmonim lessons (Group or private)

• Intro to Maqamot and applications

• Beginner Hebrew lessons for boys and girls of all ages.
